19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been earned on hardcourt

A comeback Medvedev claimed his initial title for nearly 30 months with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a former number one, has had a challenging season, managing just one match at the major tournaments and undergoing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

The player's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and issues with his serve in particular - led to him exiting of the elite rankings and ultimately separating with long-time coach his previous coach.

Now training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has consistently improved in the past month - climaxing in a tightly fought three-set triumph over Frenchman Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's maiden championship following the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface after March of that year.

Success also signifies Medvedev has achieved twenty-one titles at 21 distinct events.

"For the first time I'm at a competition with my both daughters at once, so to get a trophy is particularly special," stated world number 14 the champion.

"This championship is in tribute of my second daughter her name, because the maiden victory I achieved when my child Alisa was born was for her."

The athlete, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his last six championship matches, comprising in the German tournament in the past months.

Medvedev's retrieving approach and recurring outbursts on the tennis court had prompted observers to question if his ability to play at the elite level was concluded.

Yet the athlete has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, striving to come to the net and compete positively, backed up by an improved serve.

Medvedev fought back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the tricky Moutet, winning 4 of the final five points to take the lead.

The pair exchanged break points in the following set before the challenger, attempting for his first professional victory, took control to create a third set.

Moutet saved 4 early chances in a close final set before the champion secured a break to 15 to secure the win.

Appropriately, Medvedev clinched the title with a shot at the net area, with Moutet unable to control a shot after over two and a half hours.
